The Security Industry Authority Law
From May 2005 clamping vehicles without a license issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) became a criminal offence.
Anyone found to be clamping or allowing clamping without the correct licence can incur heavy fines of up to £5,000 and could face a prison sentence of up to 5 years or both.
If you allow wheel clamping to take place on your property you are responsible for ensuring that the company employed has the relevant and correct licence.
you will need a licence if you are:
- A business providing wheel clamping services
- An employee who handles the wheel clamping of your car park at work
- A private land owner who does your own wheel clamping and charges a release fee
Please ensure that any company you authorise to operate clamping duties on your property carries a valid SIA licence.
ALWAYS REQUEST THE 16 DIGIT LICENCE NUMBER BEFORE CLAMPING COMMENCES WHICH CAN BE CHECKED FOR AUTHENTICITY VIA THE SIA WEBSITE
